IBMS training approvals are for IBMS qualifications only.
Support Staff Training Approval
For training laboratory support staff through the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Parts I and II.
Pre-Registration Training Approval
Post-Registration Training Approval
By maintaining an up-to-date database of approved laboratories at a departmental level, including key training staff within each department, the list of key staff must match all named staff on portfolio applications.
Applying for training approval
There are several ways you can apply which are dependent on your laboratory approval status:
- To renew your laboratory’s training approval status or apply for additional levels of training approval, complete and submit the IBMS Laboratory Training Approval Application Form.
- For additional levels of approval, or for additional Specialist Portfolio disciplines, please provide your completed training programme for the qualification. For guidance refer to the IBMS Laboratory Approval Training Programme Template.
Your application and supporting documentation should be submitted to educationsupport@ibms.org
- If your laboratory has not previously applied for training approval, you will need to submit a full set of training documentation which includes the declaration form, training programme and training policy.

Applications can only be accepted by email.
If you have already applied for training approval and are awaiting an outcome, your application will continue to be assessed according to our existing process.
Any changes in training or staff must be communicated to the IBMS by completing the Laboratory Approval Update Request Form and returning it to educationsupport@ibms.org
