Celebrating Black History Month 2022
This October will mark Black History Month (BHM) 2022 – with the theme for this year being “Black Health and Wellness: Recognising the achievements of Black health and wellness practitioners”. As always, BHM is a vital opportunity to reflect on what more needs to be done to ensure our systems are operating on a policy of inclusion and fairness, in which no region or race has power over any other.
The IBMS are running a special awareness campaign throughout the month, to show our support for this event and demonstrate our profession’s values towards equality, diversity and inclusion for all.
Importantly, BHM provides us with the chance to celebrate the achievements of black biomedical scientists and to recognise their role in paving the way to the scientific advancements we have made today. As such, we are inviting our members to participate in this campaign.
If you are an IBMS member and would like to contribute, we would be delighted to hear from you. Your contribution can be in the form of a quote for our website, a case study, a blog, a short video, or anything that could be added to a social media ‘takeover’ event – e.g. on the IBMS’ Twitter or Instagram channels.
We are hoping to collect contributions from lots of members, discussing their journey and hopes for their future in the field.
If you are interested in participating in this exciting campaign to celebrate diverse voices in biomedical science, please contact us via email at: communications@ibms.org.
