Christian Burt, Professional Support Services Manager at the IBMS encourages members to apply:

The Science Council CPD awards are a unique opportunity for IBMS registrants to demonstrate their commitment to lifelong learning. I strongly recommend a self-nomination to showcase to the wider scientific and technical community, the dedication to CPD from biomedical scientists.

Update - CPD Awards Ceremony

The CPD Award ceremony will be held in person for the first time since 2019, on Monday 21st November, in London. The award ceremony will be part of the Science Council’s Celebration of Science Evening which also includes the Sir Gareth Roberts Lecture.

The Science Council has now confirmed that the speaker for the Roberts Lecture is Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser DBE FRS, Chief Executive of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and Regius Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge,

The Gareth Roberts Lecture is held every two years in honour of the organisation’s founding president. A high-profile speaker (to be announced soon) will deliver a thought-provoking presentation on an issue that impacts scientists and their application of science.

Speakers are invited to consider issues of policy and policy making that impact scientists and their application of science. Previous speakers have included Professor Sir David King, Lord David Willetts, Baroness O’Neill of Bengarve and Professor Dame Anne Glover.

Update - Judges required

Another important element of the CPD Awards is the judging process. The Science Council is recruiting judges who need to be available after the nomination period closes (17th July).
